Local governments play an essential role in contributing towards inclusive local economic growth – to create and maintain a positive climate for business to grow and expand and jobs to be created – particularly for poor Filipino men and women. This must be planned and implemented in ways that will make their communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
This Forum intends to facilitate a conversation among government, the private sector and other stakeholders to reignite interest and provide impetus to move towards a more meaningful and sustainable contribution to the inclusive growth strategies of the Philippine government.
This Forum is an activity of the Local Governance Support Program for Local Economic Development (LGSP-LED), a cooperation program of the Governments of Canada and the Philippines through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to assist LGUs to work better with their private sector and community in growing businesses and creating jobs.
For the past six years and with LGSP-LED support, 11 provinces, 8 cities, and 60 municipalities have worked relentlessly to implement local economic development initiatives in their communities. These LGUs attracted almost PHP 6 billion in investments from 2011 to 2013 and created over 2200 new jobs for their communities.
Join us in this Forum to hear about some of LGSP-LED’s key successes and learn about the 9 new projects in 11 provinces, keenly interested in implementing inclusive tourism development initiatives for their communities. In addition, DILG will recognize the project’s 9 current local economic development champions and their LED initiatives in engaging the government and private sector to support the growth and expansion of tourism and agribusiness communities.
